The college application process begins in earnest with the College Plan Session. Ideally scheduled between the spring of sophomore year and the fall of junior year, this 90-minute meeting will establish a plan to ensure a successful and minimally stressful college application experience. In addition to reviewing of the student’s high school record and college goals, this meeting will also cover:
Developing a personalized college list and admissions plan,
Establishing a testing schedule and preparation plan for all necessary standardized tests (SAT/ACT, Subject Tests, APs),
Surveying academic interests and exploring potential college majors,
Planning remaining high school course selection
Seeking teacher and counselor recommendations
Exploring ways to demonstrate leadership and deepen extracurricular activities, including community service, throughout the school year.
Comprehensive College Application Package (11th and 12th Grades)
In addition to ongoing advising about classes, testing, extracurricular activities, and summer plans, our meetings will include:
A battery of personality assessments to provide insight into interests, strengths, and possible major/career paths,
Regular meetings to ensure timely progress (typically monthly and increasing to bi-monthly during app season, with more as needed),
Discussion of the most advantageous strategy for applying to schools, including Early Decision and/or Early Action,
Advice on cultivating good teacher and counselor relationships, identifying potential sources for supplementary letters, and answering questionnaires for recommendation letters,
Essay coaching—including brainstorming sessions and support for every step of process, from initial to final edit—for up to 10 schools,
Interview prep,
Guidance on completing and submitting college applications,
Support for appeals letters and other post-application documentation, as necessary.
